To get to Southwold by train from London go from London Liverpool Street where you need the East Suffolk Line bound for Lowestoft. You may need to change at Ipswich, depending on which train you catch. Some trains are now straight through to north Suffolk. The rail service is operated by National Express.
For Southwold you have a choice of either the station at Darsham or the station at Halesworth. Both stations are about ten miles from Southwold.
Travelling from the London/Ipswich direction you reach Darsham first. This station though is right by the A12 road with just a few houses and businesses close by. Darsham village is a distance away. Halesworth station links to Southwold mainly by the bus service 601 operated

Coaches (timetables available on their website) as well as other services. The 601 service runs between
Halesworth and Lowestoft calling at Halesworth train station
and will set down in Southwold Market Place.
If boarding the bus at Halesworth remember to go to the bus stop on the
'uphill' side of the station , not the car park side. There are
